The Office of the Head of the English Department efficiently manages all aspects of the department's administration concerning faculty members, students, staff, and service workers. The Head of the Department plays a central role as a member of the College Council and key administrative committees, focusing on enhancing communication among the academic, administrative, service staff, students, and the college's senior administration, including the Dean and their academic and administrative assistants. Together with the Department Council and the Academic Committee, the Head oversees academic and research activities, as well as extracurricular student activities, and carefully monitors the department's financial and administrative matters.
The Head of the Department is responsible for administratively and academically overseeing exams, always striving to achieve the highest standards of quality and excellence in all administrative, academic, and service activities to improve community service and ensure effective productivity. Under the supervision of the Department Council, the Head formulates and implements the department's strategic and phased plans, tracking their progress meticulously and preparing necessary reports on their implementation and outcomes. They also work on developing the skills of academic and administrative staff throughout their service and on promoting learning, research, and extracurricular activities for students.

Biography of the Head of the Department
Dr. Eyad Abdul-Razzaq Abboud graduated from the College of Education for Humanities, Department of English, University of Basra, in 1998. He completed his master’s degree in Linguistics/Stylistics in 2002 at the University of Basra. His thesis was titled “Paralinguistic and Quasi Paralinguistic Analysis in George Bernard Shaw's Arms and the Man.” He joined the School of Humanities at Ovidius University, Romania, in 2019 for his doctoral studies. His dissertation, “Representations of Trauma in Contemporary Fiction: Karan Mahajan, Alice Sebold, and Toni Morrison,” earned him a PhD in Linguistics in 2022 from Ovidius University. Dr. Eyad has been a faculty member at Shatt Al-Arab University in Basra since 2002, focusing on stylistics and cultural studies. He has authored 17 research papers, all in his field of specialization, in English.
